Ofcom warns BBC

This is an interesting news article, apparently Ofcom have said that plans for BBC programs to be available for download for up to 13 weeks after they have been broadcast is not in the public interest and will have a negative effect on commercial rivals.

So my 2 pence on the subject.
I think this is very much in the public interest, most people I know rarely watch television programs when they are scheduled to be broadcast, not only that but people who thought something was good tell other people about the program and it's nice to be able to go back and watch something that you might not initially have watched.

As for commercial rivals.
They would have different programs available to the BBC anyway, they would probably charge you to download the program and no doubt it would also contain advertising, we pay the license fee so should have full access to current BBC content.

Impact on DVD sales.
Well the impending format war between Blu-ray and HD-DVD will probably have a much bigger impact, I do own several box sets of BBC series and that won't change as these are usually bought many years after they were broadcast on TV.

In case your wondering I don't work for the BBC.

There's something about Rick!

although I haven't figured out his inspiration for abbreviations comes from I did find out his sudden enthusiasm for me came from, apparently one of my male friend (someone who I usually manage to piss off of late without intention) told Rick that I'm an easy lay, mentioning that he's had me several times before (said friend has ejaculated over me once before, but I was dressed and unaware of his intention until it was too late, this is where the hostilities started, but that's another story) so I haven't told Rick he's not my type, I've seen him out with us for the past six months or so now although I haven't talked to him that much until Saturday evening, he seems a nice bloke so I don't want to just blow him off, perhaps I'll gently suggest he's not the man for me and hope he doesn't get shitty about it, I don't want to start alienating all my friends.

Saying that I was in a quirky mood this morning and replied to his text message 'I think ur fone is broken, it keeps missing letters out.' I actually felt kind of bad after I sent it and he hasn't replied so I may have already blown him off.

Men! who wants them?

Text messaging

or I believe it's called sms'ing now, I must be getting old!

After a night out drinking I sometimes get a text from my sister, although we share an apartment she thinks it's safer to text me than knock on my door, now in a semi-conscious state I like text's which don't require much mental power to process, my sisters messages are normally something like 'hi, how r u feeling?' which is very easy to understand even with slightly blurred vision and a hangover from hell.

I was out last night with some friends and had given my mobile number to a friend who didn't have it, he must have thought he pulled or something since I got a message from him today reading 'Hi, h r u 2d, rick x' I've changed the name to to rick for the purpose of this post, I hadn't had that much to drink so no ill effects this morning, but I had to think about the message for a few moments before I understood it, 'h' doesn't sound anything like 'how', the 'r u' is easily understood for 'are you', but '2d' for 'today', I know it's easy on the fingers but am I just getting old or something?

I sent a text back about an hour after he sent it, just a simple 'I'm fine thanks', got a reply almost immediately 'gld to hr it, lkg fwd 2 nx tme, x' am I reading to much in to the kisses, haven't replied to that one, my head still hurts from reading it.

These boots were made for walking

Wednesday was a day full of fun (can't you just feel the sarcasm)
It started when I parked on the verge of the company pond (normally known as the car park), although it was slightly flooded and since I wasn't early I was the one with wet feet, and I mean literally, my usual casual office shoes were no match for the pond and my feet were wet as soon as I got out of the car.

So I'm walking around the office bare foot and finding that the carpet on the edge of the walkways (where few people walk) is lovely and soft, I was fairly happy and had forgotten about the treacherous weather outside and the fact I was barefoot, that was until a delivery guy in his big man boots stood on my feet, not once but twice! the first time he apologised but the second he just covered his assets, that might have been due to the look I gave him, ha.
My shoes had dried out by mid morning so I decided to put them back on, they were a bit stiff and god did my feet hurt when I eventually got home, late as usual.

Thursday, mindful of the previous days events I decided to wear boots, I have a lovely pair of Stella McCartney boots that if I must say look fab on me, but if I'm going to wear fashionable boots I couldn't wear the usual office getup so I pulled out a designer suit to match.
My cautionary tactics proved to be well thought out as our pond was now a lake and the water was only just below the door of my car (thats a normal saloon not a 4x4) ok I'm exaggerating a bit but it was deep enough to submerge my feet, so I wade through the water watching some of the guys trying to convince the security guards to park their cars so they wouldn't get their feet wet, judging from the number of guys with rolled up trousers they didn't succeed.

Now wearing boots means I have to wear socks, I'm not much of a sock lover but have a supply for such occasions, the only problem being my toe nails are nice and sharp so when I got home I had a hole in each one where my big toe was, I like my toe nails, they are good for stabbing people with in night clubs when they annoy me :)

Random Post

In case you didn't notice, I like pink, the colour that is not the singer, just felt like sharing that!

Judge John Deed
Oh and the new series of Judge John Deed is on BBC1 Tuesdays and Thursdays, I think it's one of the must see shows on TV, from the little TV I actually watch I like to think that I choose my viewing carefully, although like any program I choose to watch I find the scheduling of the program doesn't fit with me but these days that doesn't matter much as I record things for convenient viewing, although as mentioned before I am concerned about the effect this practice has on shows, series such as Farscape were cancelled because not enough people watched it, but because of record DVD sales they made a mini-series to finish the story line, but still shows television studio's don't have a clue about what the audience wants.

Celebrity Big Brother
Does anyone actually care? I certainly don't!

BNP Ballerina
Not that I'm a member of the BNP as I don't agree with their policies, but in this instance I think the protesters are out of line, perhaps we should enter their work place and start shouting things at them while they are trying to get their job done?

Strike Action
Another god dam strike! no doubt they would choose a time which will cause the most disruption to the public which will win them no sympathy, not that I'm against people's right to strike (although I think it's often abused) what did I do to deserve you to disrupt my holiday travel arrangements (not that I'm saying this instance will) it's like the fire strike a few years ago, as soon as they chose strike on bonfire night they lost my support.

Nintendo wii
Now I don't have one, of my friends that do they all love it, even people who wouldn't normally play games, but they all agree on one thing, they hate the name and where possible avoid saying it opting for 'the new Nintendo console', 'that new thingy from Nintendo', 'the console you play with a remote' and frankly I agree, I think it's one of the stupidest names they could have come up with, maybe it got lost in the translation from Japanese?

Fight club - temp girls - Part 2

There was me saying I was aiming for 1 post a day and I go and miss 2 days!! thats life I guess.

Anyway so onto the temp girls.
So things flared up mid week, I nearly fired Amy because she used Joanne's email to send a message to people, the message was worded as an apology from Joanne, but it backfired in Amy's face, especially when I got wind of it.

To cut a long story short, mainly because I'm tired and want to go to sleep, Joanne handed her notice in, I probably spent more time talking to her about what she planned to do than I had during the whole time she worked for me, turns out she's a really smart girl, much more than people give her credit for.
For those of you thinking I'm a bad boss for not knowing much about her, yes I should spend more time getting to know the people who work for me but her direct supervisor is off sick which is why all this ended up on my plate, we all learn from things and I've decided to make some changes to how things function, some perhaps some good came of it after all

Never enough time

There never seems to be enough hours in the day!

Would like to say thanks to London-Lass for posting the first comment on my blog, yey someone actually read it!!! ha.

I've been remembering an incident that happened to me a few years back, didn't seem funny at the time but does now, which is always good I think, each time I remember something else about it I'm jotting it down, hopefully on the weekend I'll have enough notes to piece together something coherent.

I'm trying to stick to at least one blog entry a day, although I have no plans to post while laying on the beach in sunny Spain :)~ but will no doubt have plenty of stories when I come back, but I not actually going for another 6 months :(

Can't a girl take a shower in peace

As I've said before I'm not going to use real names in my posts, so with this in mind for all future posts I'll refer to my younger sister as Laura and my daughter as Sophie.

While taking a shower my sister (Laura) knocks on the door asking if I've emptied the recycling, to which I replied I hadn't and thinking to myself why not just look in the recycle bin, if it's full then obviously I hadn't emptied it.

About 2 minutes later she knocks on the door again, this time asking where the coffee filters are, at this point I'm getting pissed off and thinking can't you wait 10 f**king minutes!!! but I curb my frustration and instead reply 'yes please', I could almost imagine the look of confusion on her face which brought a smile to mine, she shouted back 'what' and wanting her to go away i replied 'yes I'd love some coffee', she went away and I had the remainder of my shower in peace.

When I has finished in the shower I found a nice hot cup of coffee on the bedside table in my bedroom, she must have found the filters without my help.

Blu-ray v's HD-DVD

This is one of those arguments that pisses me off, Its obvious that Sony isn't backing down due to its failure with betamax, the breakdown of talks between the two camps suggests to me that their primary focus is profit, they don't really care that the consumer doesn't want to arbitrate this fight and doesn't want to have to buy both formats or worst buy the wrong one.
I've said in the past I wouldn't buy anything High-Def until one of these formats became the majority, now I'm thinking I'm not buying either format, I would rather wait for the successor of these formats comes out and the companies learn their lesson.

Do I think it will make a difference,
Yes I do! I personally watch on average less than 10 hours of TV a week, several month ago I bought a hard disk recorder and watch the program I want to watch when I want to watch them, I like crime drama's but am not willing to turn the telle on at 11pm to watch an hours program and goto bed tired, I'd rather rather watch it when my daughter goes to bed and only spend 45 minutes (skipping the adverts) this approach has it's downside as people who record programs for later viewing don't get included in the viewing figures and quite a few popular shows have been cancelled purely because they were shown at times which was inappropriate to the fan base (I'm ranting off subject now!)

Back to the original argument,
These new formats are only expected to be around for a short while until the next generation comes out, so I think I'll wait, cartoons look fine on standard TV anyway.

Who do I think will win?
Besides LG's dual format player,
It looks to me like both formats are backed by different industries, for the most part the movie industry is behind Blu-Ray and the PC industry is backing HD-DVD so my guess is that both formats will stick around but will split off into the two areas I just mentioned, you'll get the new bond film on Blu-Ray but the new Windows will ship on HD-DVD

Fight club - temp girls

First off I got some major tooth ache last night, sleep was something I didn't get so I wasn't in the best of moods and I got into work later than I would have liked this morning, I work flexible hours so that's not a problem, but it was nearly 10am by the time I got in.

This is about two temp girls I have working for me, for the purpose of this article I'll refer to them as Joanne & Amy.
So Joanne's been working for me for about a year, she's a quiet girl who keeps to her self mostly but has made friends with most of the other people she works with, in December she had to go into hospital for an operation, nothing too serious but she would be off for about a month, she asked if one of her friends who was looking for xmas work could do the job while she was off, I didn't see a problem with this so said ok, her friend Amy came in about a week before Joanne was off and they worked happily together and got lot done, Amy is less reserved and made friends quickly, she also got more done in the day than Joanne did, Amy asked if she could stay on after Joanne came back to work, she was such a good worker and I needed a temp for maternity cover so gladly agreed.

Well today Joanne came back to work, my god! you would have thought these girls were each others worst nightmares, they were cursing and blinding at one another, Joanne was accusing Amy of stealing her friends and Amy was getting pissed off when people were being nice to Joanne, Amy then said she was going to quit, I had to split them up to get some order back, lets hope a new day brings with it some sense.

Personality traits

I saw this personality test on Meta Kate, I found her writing an interesting read so decided to try it for myself.

Global Personality Test Results
Stability (73%) high which suggests you are very relaxed, calm, secure, and optimistic..
Orderliness (50%) medium which suggests you are moderately organized, hard working, and reliable while still remaining flexible, efficient, and fun.
Extraversion (70%) high which suggests you are overly talkative, outgoing, sociable and interacting at the expense too often of developing your own individual interests and internally based identity.
Take Free Global Personality Test
personality tests by similarminds.com

Interesting results, I'm a very stable person (I do tend to be the person others call for support), I'm organised but am still flexible and know how to have fun and apparently I'm a show off (now where did they get that idea from!!)

Child's play

I actually posted a comment on someone else's blog, whooho, it wasn't till after I posted did I realise I was reading the archive, well it was only 4 months old!

Well trying on all my new clothes didn't stop my sister from raiding the pile, funny thing tho is that she took something she had bought me! no doubt it will end up back in my draw after she has spilt something on it.

A post everyday since I started and 2 yesterday, am I becoming an addict or do they just call this blogging...!

So my little girl decides to try my earrings on without telling me, the first I hear about it is the loud scream as it clamps shut on her ear, it even drew blood, awww poor thing, I think not, she won't try that again in a hurry.

All in all a quiet weekend, I usually have a second new years eve party with the people who were with family for new year, we usually get strange looks from the staff when we start counting down and cheer at midnight, I think we're having one next week, will have to check with the rest of the girls and see whats going on, a weekend without vodka, how dare they!!!

Fashion sense!

I've done it, I managed to try everything on and it all fits! even the pair of jeans that didn't the other day, yey!!!
half way through my sister rings me from the car (hands free of course) she's round the corner and can I meet her downstairs as she wants to go straight home, I'm on about my big sister now by the way, she's married with two kids of her own, her daughter is just a bit older than mine and her son is a few years younger, she'd taken them all out for the day so probably wasn't in the best of moods at this point, I grabbed the closest pair of shoes, which happened to be a pair of high heels and trundled downstairs to meet her.

Now round the corner to me means about 2 minutes away so I didn't bother grabbing my jacket, so I'm standing in the doorway waiting for her car to pull up, I kept getting funny looks from people probably due to my attire, I was in high heels, casual jeans and a brightly decorated tee-shirt my sister had brought back from Australia, guess I won't be winning a fashion award any time soon.

25 minutes later! she pulls up, unusually chirpy, after a day with the 3 kids I'm usually ready to kill them, so anyway I get my daughter and some clothes she had bought and make our way up to my apartment, as we get in the door she asks why I didn't cut the tags of my clothes, to my horror I look in the mirror and see a big label stuck on my arse and tags hanging from the collar of my shirt, typical.

Settling into the new year

And there was me thinking going back to work after the new year would be nice and relaxing, I was basing this opinion on previous years but I had been promoted in the summer and didn't have the quiet week before xmas I was used to, my last day in work was hectic, I thought a nice early finish, I was rushing around and didn't finish till late (later than a normal day) and the same in the new year, it's been a busy week (a 4 day week at that!) but I got away early on Friday so I'm hoping for a normal time of it next week.

Still haven't got round to trying on all my new clothes, think I'm going to have to quick since my sister keeps asking if this or that top she bought me fits, I didn't tell her the jeans were tight since she's a size smaller than me and would grab them in a second.

I'm wanting to try posting an image here (since apparently you can)
If you can see the image then it worked!! it's going to be my own bbc news site before you know it! ha

I've also been reading some blogs, its funny that I didn't actually read any before I started blogging my self.
here's one blog I quiet like The Fine Art of Free Speech and Dissent
and this website brings a lot of blogs together technorati
apologies if you have already seen them, I'm new at this so I guess I assume people reading this are too.

good old Photoshop

Well I managed to stitch together a couple of images and make a new header bar for this blog (the image is hosted on photobucket.com for those interested), I think it came out quite good since I didn't really know what I was aiming for in the first place.

For other people like me (i.e. who don't really know what we're doing) the image was made using blending and opacity, two quite simple techniques that I think came out rather well considering my very limited knowledge of image editing programs (in this case photoshop).

And it looks like I've still not got round to posting about what I actually started this blog for in the first place, perhaps tomorrow ;) that is if I ever finishing trying on all the clothes I got for christmas, I was a bit disappointed when I tried on a new pair of jeans and there were a little tight, must be all those mince pies...

Quiet day

It's been a quiet day today, I've been making notes about things that have happened over the last year or so and I suppose building up the courage to actually post something personal here.

When I registered here I thought easy, just write down what happens and just stuff like that i suppose, but now actually doing it seems a little harder, the first thought 'what if someone recognises me' how would I feel if someone I know commented about this blog to my face, I mean say I had a crush on one of my friends and they read what I wrote and asked me about it, most of you are probably saying that's great, you could get together where you wouldn't have other wise, but hmmm I don't know.

I do still intend to post stuff here, just thinking that I may need to show a little self control in what I put here, well at least for now ;) and self control for me isn't all that easy, ha.

What's this all about

OK, so why am I writing this and what do I intend to write?

I'm writing this because I sometimes find certain aspects of my life amusing, other times annoying, you know when you tell someone about something that happened that day and you both just start laughing even when the thing that happened probably wasn't funny at the time.

I don't intend this to be a daily account of my life, just snippets for their entertainment value, I'll probably write about past events as I remember them but will mention that in the post.

If I'm honest then I guess that many of the events in my life have sexual under tones, It's funny that the society we live in gives the impression that women don't think about sex in their everyday lives, you hear guys in the office talking about the new girl with the big boobs but you don't hear about the girls talking about similar things, so this gives me a chance to write down how I interpret life.

I will change names and maybe some minor details to hide identities, if however you recognise me please don't post that on this (or indeed other) blogs, Jessica isn't my real name but I wish to keep the people who read and hopefully enjoy my comments on here separate from my everyday life, as you can probably understand what a person does in life is perhaps different than what they are thinking, so this is a little insight into how I think and I would appreciate your co-operation with that.
